The Afro Utah awards are prestigious accolades presented annually to commend and celebrate exceptional individuals actively reshaping societal perceptions of Black individuals and those of Afro descent within our community. These remarkable individuals not only challenge stereotypes and break down barriers but also profoundly contribute to our state’s progress and prosperity. Their remarkable efforts inspire and empower others, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

Military Service Excellence Award
The Afro Utah, Military Service Excellence Award commemorates extraordinary service members (veterans, active duty, and reservists) of Afro descent. The award nominee should have made significant contributions to their community, with a focus on the Black population within Utah. The nominee must be in good standing within their community and military organization, with veterans required to be honorably discharged. Supporting documents must be provided.
Hidden Figures Tech Award
The Afro Utah Hidden Figures Tech Award celebrates technologically innovative individuals of Afro descent residing in Utah. This award acknowledges technological contributions that have significantly impacted the state. We seek to honor those demonstrating innovation, strategic thinking, and planning in their tech-oriented roles or businesses.
Religious Impact Award
The Afro Utah Religious Impact Award is given to an individual of Afro descent who has made remarkable contributions in the religious field. The recipient will have fostered growth in faith within their community and developed programs that significantly impact the lives of Afro-descendant individuals in their congregation and community.
Political Courage Award
The Afro Utah Political Courage Award honors persons of Afro-descent who have made significant political contributions, particularly in changing laws impacting Afro-descendant people within Utah. The recipient should have actively encouraged civic and political rights engagement within the black community and fostered mutual understanding between black and non-black communities in Utah.
Breakthrough Athlete Award
The Afro Utah Breakthrough Athlete Award celebrates sportspersons of Afro descent in Utah for their sports achievements and contributions beyond the playing field.
Entertainment Excellence Award
The Afro Utah Entertainment Excellence Award recognizes individuals or groups of Afro descent who have made unique contributions to the entertainment industry and their community. The recipients could be involved in various forms of entertainment (the arts, music, dance, poetry, books, Films, television, radio, and other prints). They should promote the growth of young black individuals in the industry.
Community Advocate Award
The Afro Utah Community Advocate Award celebrates community advocates and activists of Afro descent who have made significant contributions to their community. The award recognizes those who have served as role models for compassion and service and are passionate about their cause.
Humanitarian Award
The Afro-Utah Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals or groups of Afro descent in Utah who have made substantial contributions to alleviate human suffering and improve the quality of life.
Best Afro Business of the Year Award
The Afro Utah Best Afro Business of the Year Award recognizes Afro-owned businesses that have demonstrated business success over the past five years. The recipient should have shown significant contributions to the Afro-descendant business communities and commitment to increasing business opportunities.
Best Afro Non-profit of the Year Award
The Afro Utah Best Afro Non-profit of the Year Award acknowledges a Utah-based, Afro-owned non-profit that has made significant contributions to Utah’s Afro-descendant communities.
Health Advocacy Award
The Afro Utah Health Advocacy Award acknowledges individuals of Afro descent who have made significant contributions to Utah’s health industry, particularly in advancing medical care for people of color, minorities, and the underserved.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Excellence Award
The Afro Utah Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Excellence Award celebrates individuals of Afro descent who have made significant contributions to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Utah
Academic Achievement Award
- The Afro Utah Academic Achievement Award honors individuals of Afro descent who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and achievements.
Impact on Education Award
The Afro Utah Impact on Education Award recognizes individuals of Afro descent who have made significant positive impacts on students’ lives and their affiliated educational institutions.
Cultural Ambassador Award
The Afro Utah Cultural Ambassador Award honors individuals of Afro descent who have inspired others through their active exhibition and preservation of cultural traditions.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Afro Utah Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges individuals of Afro-descent who have made significant and sustained contributions to the development of Afro-descendant communities through leadership and mentorship.
